Savvas Metaxas returns to LINE for a third volume of his enveloping Magnetic Loops series. For fans of meditative and looping drone works by William Basinski, Tu M’, Triac, Pinkcourtesyphone, and Miguel Angel Tolosa’s Nostalgia (circa 1987).
“The configuration of the Revox A-77 as a tape loop machine seems to be a place of comfort for me. Regardless the music I am working on at a current period of time, the mood, or the projects I am involved in, the Revox loops always come in as a relief from stress and creativity blocks.
Just like with the Magnetic Loops II (LINE_128), the recordings for this release were created impromptu. The three first tracks were made in one night. The music seemed to have a life of itself and despite the lateness of the night it felt like if I had to continue until things started to look finished, despite my weariness. In the morning I went straight up to complete my daily dull routine at work and once I returned back to the studio, I recorded the fourth track. I spent the next day listening back to the tracks and added a few bits of post-production touches. I wanted the tracks to sound ‘raw’ and ‘simple’ so I didn’t do much once they were completed.
The sounds you listen come from a Yamaha reface DX and a Moog mother32. The very first loop of the first track is the sound I found on the tape I used. It is a recording from a techno production that came within the Revox reels and belongs to my dear friend Thanos Hana, whose Revox I have now in possession. Once the tracks were mastered by Yannis Tsirikoglou from Eventless Plot, I shared them with Richard Chartier since it felt nice to have this album as a thematic continuation from my previous release on LINE.
I hope you enjoy the new magnetic loops.”
